On-demand electric minibus service to participate in Government’s Bus Fare Cap Grant from January to March, 2023.

Residents of Essex can save money when using the on-demand electric minibus service, DigiGo, in 2023, thanks to a new Government initiative.  

DigiGo has announced it will be participating in the Government’s Bus Fare Cap Grant (BFCG) from 1 January until 31 March 2023.

This means that all single tickets will be capped at just £2, making it easier to access social, employment, health or education opportunities.

DigiGo is a new electric shared public transport service which offers on-demand or pre-bookable travel in parts of Essex.

There is no fixed route or timetable, which puts customers in control of their journeys. DigiGo operates seven days a week, from 7am until 10pm everyday (excluding bank holidays).

For the first three months of 2023, passengers will be able to take advantage of these low, capped prices in the usual way by booking journeys via the TravelEssex app, where vehicles can be tracked in real time prior to and during the journey.

At a time when people are worried about the rising cost of living, the £2 bus fare cap can save passengers up to 75% off usual fares until 31 March 2023. 

For an existing customer who takes 5 trips a week, they could save up to £120 a month compared to normal.

Councillor Lee Scott, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways Maintenance and Sustainable Transport, said: “I am delighted that DigiGo will be participating in the Bus Fare Cap Grant from 1 January 2023.

“This investment will help hundreds of residents to save on travel costs. At a time when people are struggling, it’s never been more important to support those who regularly use public transport.
