Funding secured by Essex County Council for residential electric vehicle (EV) charging

Electric charge points to be rolled out across the county helping to make Essex safer, greener and healthier.

The Government has confirmed that Essex County Council (ECC) will be awarded £236,000 as part of the electric vehicle (EV) residential charge point scheme.

Approximately 60 charging points will be installed in 30 locations across the county from summer 2023 onwards and supports ECC’s ambition for Essex to become safer, greener and healthier.

EV charging at home usually takes place off-street in garages and driveways.

DigiGo celebrates first birthday

On-demand sustainable public transport service has served more than 11,500 passengers in its first year.

The innovative public transport service DigiGo is celebrating its first birthday on April 1 2023.

DigiGo is a shared minibus service with wheelchair accessible vehicles, offering on-demand and pre-bookable travel with no fixed route or timetable.

The service operates 7 days a week, from 7am until 10pm every day and is included in the Government's Bus Fare Cap Grant with journeys costing just £2 until 31 March 2023.

Record number of Essex residents sign up for solar panel group buying scheme

A record number of residents have signed up for Solar Together Essex as registration for the scheme is extended for another month.

Over 6,600 Essex residents have currently signed up for Solar Together Essex, a group buying scheme for solar panels and battery storage.

This is the fourth time that Essex County Council has run the scheme and the most successful to date.

Coming soon this spring is a pioneering new app which will help us all to cut our carbon footprint and mitigate the effects of climate change. 

The Carbon Cutting Essex App, developed for Essex County Council by Greenredeem, will provide many practical and cost-effective suggestions on how we can all make small changes to reduce our carbon footprint.

Colchester pupils and volunteers dig in to get tree planting project underway

Project will help connect young people to nature by improving and adapting school grounds and enhancing the outdoor learning experience.

Prettygate Schools have begun an extensive three-phase project to improve and adapt school grounds, enhance pupils’ outdoor learning experience, and connect young people to nature.

Volunteers and pupils got the project underway by planting 2,158 trees over three days, braving wet and cold conditions. The trees planted were largely hedgerows.

£500,000 awarded to community groups and organisations taking action on climate change

Group buying scheme helps homeowners achieve the right price for a high-quality installation from pre-approved installers.

From today (23 January 2023) residents can register for Solar Together Essex, the group-buying scheme for solar panels and battery storage.  The scheme is also open to small and medium businesses and small community buildings.  

Tendring school to revamp pond area thanks to Climate Action Challenge Fund

Great Clacton C of E Junior School has been awarded £6,774.61 from Essex County Council’s Climate Action Challenge Fund to help the school regenerate a disused pond and restore wildlife.

A disused pond area at a Tendring junior school will be brought back to life, thanks to Essex County Council’s (ECC) Climate Action Challenge Fund.  

Great Clacton C of E Junior School will use a total of £6,774.61 of grant funding from ECC to restore the pond area, helping children to learn more about the natural environment and develop a love of nature.
