Successful county council bid brings £1m active travel capability funding to Essex

Money to be used to plan further active travel networks for more walking and cycling in county.

Families, commuters and school children in Essex will be encouraged to take up active travel habits this year as a result of Government funding recently awarded to Essex County Council.

The £1 million Capability Funding will be used to plan and develop walking and cycling networks over the next 10 years.

Free event in Braintree on Friday 27 January will help make Essex a more innovative place to do business.

The Ambitious Essex Innovation Summit 2023 is taking place at the Plaza Enterprise & Innovation Centre in Braintree on Friday 27 January.

The free, half-day event, will enable local businesses to hear from innovation experts, find out how to access innovation funding and share their experiences.

Guests can attend in-person or online via the hybrid provision.

Love Essex has launched its 2023 flagship ‘Love Essex, Love Food’ campaign in a bid to reduce food waste in the county.

In Essex, food waste currently makes up roughly 25% of the waste found in the general rubbish.

Not only is this contributing to climate change, but it’s also a huge waste of money.

Save on travel with £2 single fares with DigiGo

On-demand electric minibus service to participate in Government’s Bus Fare Cap Grant from January to March, 2023.

Residents of Essex can save money when using the on-demand electric minibus service, DigiGo, in 2023, thanks to a new Government initiative.  

DigiGo has announced it will be participating in the Government’s Bus Fare Cap Grant (BFCG) from 1 January until 31 March 2023.

This means that all single tickets will be capped at just £2, making it easier to access social, employment, health or education opportunities.

New reuse opportunity at recycling centres to support those in need

Brentwood, Chelmsford, and Harlow Recycling Centres now have donation points for residents to drop off their unwanted larger electrical appliances for the Lighthouse Furniture Project.

A new partnership between Essex County Council (ECC) and the Lighthouse Furniture Project has been launched giving residents new opportunities to donate electrical items for repair and reuse.

Residents visiting Brentwood, Chelmsford and Harlow Recycling Centres can now donate larger electrical appliances for repair and reuse and distribution amongst those in need.

Fully funded training available to support green careers

Following over 200 fully funded training places last year, Essex County Council has secured £189,150 to deliver further retrofit training in 2023.

Residents are invited to sign up to fully funded retrofit courses. Training is available at levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 and will support those who are just starting their retrofit journey, as well as those looking to progress in their career.

New tree planting dates continue climate change combatting work of Essex Forest Initiative

Tree plantings will be taking place across Essex over the winter months, with volunteers encouraged to sign up.

The Essex Forest Initiative, which is backed by Essex County Council, has announced new tree planting dates for this winter. 

Events will be taking place from November through to late January 2023.

In October 2019, Essex County Council (ECC) committed to planting £1 million worth of trees over the following five years. This is the equivalent of 375,000 trees.

So far, over 130,000 trees have been planted as part of the scheme.
