Green skills review to lay foundations for a greener Essex economy

Essex County Council (ECC) and the Essex Climate Action Commission (ECAC) have announced the appointment of Mace Group to carry out a review of Essex’s green skills.

The ‘green economy’ is a vital and growing sector, and Essex is well positioned to attract many more businesses in the future. It is crucial that Essex residents have the opportunity to gain the right skills, in order to take advantage of these jobs.

The Essex Energy Switch is a county wide collective energy switching campaign, organised by Essex County Council, to help county residents take the hassle out of searching for deals.

Residents can register for the Essex Energy Switch until 12 October. Registration for the Essex Energy Switch is free and only takes five minutes.

Essex Forest Initiative secures £300k for trees

Efforts from the Essex Forest Initiative have recently been given a significant boost, thanks to the Forestry Commission, with the award of £300k funding for trees.

The Local Authority Treescape Fund is grant funding from the Forestry Commission to support tree planting outside of woodlands. It focusses on settings such as hedgerows, parklands, urban areas, riverbanks, roads and footpaths.

The Minister of State for Media and Data in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has visited a primary school in Essex to see how the school is inspiring its young people to take action to safeguard the planet from the effects of climate change.

Essex Pedal Power launches in Clacton and Jaywick Sands

A first-of its kind community-led project in Essex will make cycling more accessible for people living in Clacton and Jaywick Sands, as 1,300 free new bikes will be given to eligible residents over the next two years.

In a launch event at the Jaywick Community and Resource Centre on the 12th June, the first bikes were given away to successful applicants and arrangements are being made to distribute the rest of the bikes in stages between now and 2023.

Major investment to upgrade 82,000 streetlights to LEDs in Essex

Essex County Council has announced that it will be upgrading all of the county’s remaining non-LED streetlights. The Council has already installed around 45,000 LED streetlights, and will now be investing to replace the remaining 82,000.

LED streetlights last longer, use less electricity and so provide a better service while saving taxpayers' money.
